a dynamic fusion of haitian musical traditions and modal jazz, intertwining their respective talents to create a captivating and innovative musical experience. cappadocia’s cello, augmented by a fifth bass string and fender-style magnetic pickups, allows it to function as both a voice and a percussion instrument. it blends with anozier’s soulful vocals that draw on haitian vodou and folk melodies, and adds a visceral and spiritual dimension to a music that is enhanced by the musician’s masterful playing and arrangements.

through dance, music, and lectures, this festival presents an array of international and diasporic musical traditions extant in NYC and how they are sustained and evolve within the immigrant communities of the city. rather than focusing on one tradition or culture, BIMF seeks to highlight through local, living exponents of traditional music from outside the united states, the pancultural experience of how musical traditions are maintained outside their homelands in NYC.
the festival is on june 10th and june 11th. check out the link of the fantastic line up!
